I'm definitely writing all these down!! My favorite reads this year were: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow; Braiding Sweetgrass; The Paper Palace; Homegoing; and Vesper Flights. Yay books!
I adored tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow too!! Braiding Sweetgrass is on my shelf and I’ve heard such great things! Maybe 2025 will be the year I open it!
We visited some of the Laura Ingalls Wilder sites in the Ozarks when I was a kid and I LOVED it!! I bet that was such a great trip for your family! My kids and I all loved the Wild Robot, and Signal Fires is incredible! Lots of books in here I’m excited to add to my TBR!
Yes! Love book lists! Thank you for this one! I've read Laura Ingalls Wilder with my kids over the years, and we always enjoy! My son really loves the I Survived book series, too. We just started a new one series, though: The Flashback Four. Have you heard of them? So far, lots of history facts!
Oh I am saving this list and going to add all of these recs to my TBR list! And love that you have a kids list, as I'm always trying to figure out what to get them to read. My 10 year old read The Wild Robot and when I took him to see it in the theater I was sobbing!
We finished The Wild Robot Escapes and it’s just as good! Sometime this year we’ll read the third! Nothing like cuddling with our kids and reading with them!
What a great list of reads! I love that you wrote about the chapter books with your kids too- that part definitely inspires me. I read my Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan Henry this year and loved it. I wondered what else she had written (and I hadn’t yet researched that) so I’m excited to learn about Secret Book of Flora Lee and adding it to my TBR now! I love this thoughtful gift you arranged for a friend too- what a dream!
It was good to keep track of the books I read with my kids because I can get so down on myself when it feels like they’re not reading or our nights are busy and we don’t read, but looking at the larger picture, we do read together and it’s enough.
I’m going to check out Becoming Mrs. Lewis now!! Thanks!
What a wonderful collection of good reads! I am going to need to check out your kids reads as we are BIG FANS of Dory Fantasmagory over here. Love those books.
I also LOVED The God of the Woods and Signal Fires! And I'm adding The Funeral Ladies of Ellerie County to my list :). I read and loved a lot of books this year too, but at the top of my list is Good Night, Irene by Luis Alberto Urrea (historical fiction) and It Wasn’t Roaring, It Was Weeping by Lisa-Jo Baker (gorgeous memoir).
I have It Wasn’t Roaring, It Was Weeping on my kindle and just need to read it! I adore her writing and I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten to it yet. Or actually, it’s because I always have library holds coming in!
Love this list! My favorite part was how you listened to Laura Ingels Wilder on your way to visit her homestead-I would have died of happiness getting to do this as a kid! My favorite books this year were Breath: The New Science of the Lost Art and Margo's Got Money Troubles, but Sissy Goff's book ranked highly, as well.
Oh, I ADORE this list and the way you shared the recommendations. Ok, Signal Fires, coming for you in 2025! And Summer Romance was an absolutely highlight of my year, too ❤️❤️
I started God of the Woods a few weeks ago but couldn't get into it. Not sure if the timing was wrong for me... but maybe I'll try it again in the new year!

Would you believe we live three hours from the Laura Wilder homestead in MO and STILL HAVE NOT BEEN?!

Definitely checking out The Flashback Four, thank you!!
Fantastic list! I'm saving this to return to later. Putting Signal Fires on hold at the library. Thanks, Kim!

Just put a few of these on my reading list! I am currently reading The Wild Robot to my kids. We saw the movie already which I loved so much!

Nice! I’m currently in the middle of The Wild Robot Escapes with my kids 😁

The God of the Woods was a top book for me this year too! I read Signal Fires last year and LOVED IT. And Eloise is reading Odder right now!!
Great list here! 😍
I learn about books from the best ;)
I also read Signal Fires this year and I was one of my favorites, too! I need to read God of the Woods! I keep seeing it everywhere.
