Small Steps Launch Day!
Why I Wrote This Book
Dear Friend,
Small Steps: Blessing to Lift Your Soul on the Pilgrimage of Life is officially in the world! It’s a dream to see these blessings find their way into your homes.
This book was written for those looking for ways to bless your days.
It’s for the ones who need the reminder that God goes with them wherever they go.
The ones who are seeking light and the ones who need the reminder that an ordinary Tuesday is dripping with holiness.
When you arrive in Santiago, the final destination of the Camino de Santiago, every day is a celebration. On the city streets, with the looming cathedral in the background, pilgrims run into one another. An abundance of hugs are shared and tears shed. You share stories. You delight in seeing one another. Everyone is congratulated for arriving in Santiago.
After I arrived in Santiago, I ran into two Swiss professors who I had traveled with on and off during the Camino. The three of us rejoiced at meeting one another again. We compared stories of where we stayed, who we met, and how we were filled with awe along the way.
As we said goodbye for the final time, they offered me a Buen Camino, the traditional greeting for pilgrims as you pass one another on the path. With surprise, I turned to them, “But we already arrived,” I said. “We’re here in Santiago.”
“Buen Camino,” they repeated, looking me in the eyes. “Your life is just beginning, we are old , but you are young.”
Buen Camino.
And so it is with launching Small Steps. Today is the beginning of this book’s life. Much of how Small Steps lands in the world is out of my hands. I’ve done what I could: written, edited, prayed, walked, and blessed. I’ve poured my heart and hopes into these words.
And now I wish this book a Buen Camino.
Small Steps has a road ahead of it that is full of finding readers and offering blessings to others.
I hope Small Steps finds its way into the hands of readers who dog-ear and highlight blessings. I hope the words get tucked into cards and letters to friends. I hope they can be shared with those who are grieving. I hope they are texted to friends and family with the note: these words made me think of you.
I hope the blessings seep into your heart and remind you of God’s abiding presence.

May your life be one of small steps
rooted in putting one foot in front of the other
paying attention to the world before you
and seeing glimpses of holiness all around.
May your yearnings and dreams
show you where your heart belongs
and who is cheering for you along the path.
May your work and prayers
pave a way forward
so that you learn from your mistakes
and listen to companions on the way
all while honoring your body’s capabilities.
May you take time to rest and renew
drink lots of water
and be sure to look up at the sky.
May you remember
that even when you’re lost
you are never alone.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Buen Camino, dear friend.
